If your NDIS provider shut down and you’ve been left without support, start with three steps. Call the NDIA on 1800 800 110 and tell them which supports you need right now. Have your plan ready. And make sure your needs are met today: if anyone is in danger, call 000.
This is a stressful place to be, especially when that support was part of every day. You don’t have to sort everything out at once. Here’s what to do this week, in order.
What to do if your NDIS provider shut down: three steps
1. Call the NDIA on 1800 800 110
Tell them which supports you need right now. If you already have a new provider in mind, tell them that too. The NDIA can have a request for service sent to the provider you choose. The number is on the NDIA’s contact page.
2. Have your plan ready
Keep your NDIS plan close and know which supports you need. It makes every call faster. If you’d like a refresher on what’s in it, our free guide to understanding your NDIS plan walks through the budgets.
3. Make sure your needs are met today
First things first. Think about what can’t wait: meals, medication, personal care, getting safely through the day. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 000. For everything else, start with the NDIA.
Before you choose a new provider, check they’re registered
It takes about two minutes. Search the provider’s business name, legal name or ABN on the NDIS Commission’s Provider Register and read their status. We walk through it step by step in how to check if your NDIS provider is registered.
When you’re ready to choose, our free guide and checklist for choosing an NDIS provider can help you compare your options, and these 5 questions to ask before signing an NDIS service agreement help with the step after that.
You are not alone in this
Between April and June 2026, 453 NDIS registrations were revoked and there were a record 111 banning orders, according to the Minister’s release of 17 August 2026. Providers can also close for many other reasons. Whatever the reason your NDIS provider shut down, the steps above are the same.
