Our story

Why Shazia started Kinship

Our founder, Shazia Begum, has worked alongside people living with disability for more than 15 years.

For a long stretch of that, she worked inside large disability support organisations as a care worker. She saw the same problems over and over: funds used inefficiently, clients overcharged, and families left without notice when a worker simply didn’t show up. None of it had to happen.

She had supported one young woman since childhood. One day, that young woman’s parents told Shazia she should start her own company. They’d watched her care for their daughter like family, and thought she could do more good on her own terms.

So she did. Kinship has supported Western Sydney families since 2017, incorporating as Kinship Uniting Services Pty Ltd in 2024. It’s still built on that first conversation: staff and clients treated with respect and dignity, and a support budget that goes towards support, not overhead.

Getting the most from a fixed budget

One of the questions we hear most is how to get more out of a fixed NDIS budget without giving up quality. There’s no trick to it. It comes down to matching the right worker to the right person, avoiding wasted or duplicated visits, and being upfront when something isn’t working.

If you’re tired of funds being misused, or you’re not happy with the support you’re getting now, call us on 0437 733 744 or 0424 756 143. We’ll tell you plainly whether we can help.
